🏔️ A Long Weekend in Summit County: Real Estate, Rainstorms & Riesling
By Ivete Liliensteins
Labor Day in Summit County isn’t just a pause from work—it’s a celebration of mountain life, community connection, and the kind of joy that sneaks up on you between thunderclaps and peach cobbler. As a mom, real estate professional, and local volunteer, my weekends often blur the lines between business and beauty. This one was no exception.
🌿 Friday: Open House & Market Magic
I kicked off the weekend hosting an open house in Dillon, perfectly timed with the bustling Dillon Farmers Market, held Fridays from June 6 to September 12, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dillon Town Park, nestled along Buffalo and LaBonte Streets. After chatting with potential buyers and soaking in the lake views, I wandered through the market stalls.
I met Ronda from the Eden Company, whose warmth and passion for natural skincare were instantly magnetic. I couldn’t resist picking up their Gold, Frankincense, & Myrrh Body Butter—a rich, aromatic blend that feels like a little luxury carved out of ancient wisdom. I also grabbed a hydrating Eden face cream to keep my skin glowing through the dry alpine air.
Another treasure: a stunning raw green emerald necklace from Mercer and Jayne—earthy, elegant, and just the right touch of mountain mystique. And of course, I stocked up on Pines' Nut Butter, a creamy, crave-worthy staple in our pantry.
🐥 Saturday: Duck Races & Deckside Cheers
Saturday was all about giving back. I volunteered with the Summit Foundation at the annual Duck Race, a quirky, beloved tradition where rubber ducks race down the Blue River for charity. I painted ducks on kids’ cheeks in exchange for donations to Farview Horse Rescue. Despite the thunder and rain, the line never dwindled. There’s something magical about mountain towns: weather may shift, but spirits rarely do.
That evening, we hosted a happy hour on our deck. Old neighbors—now part-time Breckenridge and Florida residents—joined us with a crisp bottle of dry Riesling. We shared stories, laughter, and a charcuterie board that disappeared faster than the sunset behind Peak 8.
🚴 Sunday: Downhill Thrills & Peach Cobbler
Sunday morning, my husband and I took our youngest to Keystone for some downhill mountain biking. Three laps, full-face helmets, chest pads, elbow and knee guards—it was exhilarating and slightly terrifying in the best way. We wrapped up the ride with pizza, because that’s how all great adventures end.
Back home, we were greeted with fresh Palisade peach cobbler, lovingly made by a friend and served on our patio. It tasted like summer’s last hurrah.
🥾 Monday: Baldy Rides & Trailside Talk
After a restful start, my husband and I joined friends for a ride from the top of Baldy Mountain, weaving through Black Gulch Road, Wire Patch, and Chantilly. The views were breathtaking, the company even better.
Later, I laced up my boots for a 3.5-mile hike on the Burrow Trail with a friend. We talked about the Broken Lance road project, swapped parenting stories, and marveled at how lucky we are to live in a place where trails and town planning intersect so naturally.
🌊 Tuesday: SUP & Sideline Smiles
After school today, I’ll be picking up my middle schooler for a quick paddleboard session on Lake Dillon—a perfect way to soak up the lingering warmth of early September. Then it’s off to grab our youngest after football practice. These small transitions, from lake to sideline, are the heartbeat of our family rhythm.
💬 Final Thoughts
Summit County isn’t just where I live—it’s where I grow, give, and gather. Whether I’m staging homes, painting ducks, or biking down Baldy, I’m reminded that life here is layered: equal parts grit and grace, community and solitude.
If you’re dreaming of a mountain lifestyle that blends adventure with intention, I’d love to help you find your place here. And if you’re already part of this vibrant community—cheers to another weekend well spent.
